OSCE Mission Head welcomes dialogue between Moldova President and Transdniestrian leader

CHISINAU, 11 April 2008 - The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Philip Remler, welcomed today the resumption of direct dialogue between Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin and Transdniestrian leader Igor Smirnov.
The two met today in Bender for the first time in nearly seven years.
"This meeting was a first step that can pave the way to resumption of the settlement negotiations in the 5+2 format as well as to the establishment of working groups on confidence building measures", Ambassador Remler said.
The Head of Mission applauded the two leaders for the political will they have demonstrated.
